
Phd candidate or postdoc– Genetic determinants of opioid responsiveness

- Prepare materials for ethical approval of a randomized controlled trial
- Liaise with collaborators to identify and recruit mutation carriers and controls
- Conduct experimental pain testing within the RCT
- Analyze behavioural and physiological data
- Take part in weekly lab meeting
- Present results at conferences and in written manuscripts for scientific publication
- Complete mandatory courses and other requirements of the UiO PhD programme
- Masters (or, for postdoc position, PhD) degree in psychology, medicine, nursing, neuroscience or other relevant fields
- Documented research experience in topics relevant to the research project (for postdocs, relevant academic papers in respected journals)
- Experience with (or, for medical doctors, interest in and ability to learn) quantitative research methods and statistical analysis, e.g. in R or other software
- Experience with analysing large-scale data (e.g. national registries), conducting experimental laboratory studies of pain or stress, and/or conducting RCTs would be an advantage
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Strong motivation for research
- Curious, ambitious, and well organized
- Ability to collaborate closely in a large, interdisciplinary team
- A cutting-edge, interdisciplinary, yet clinically grounded project on opioid and non-opioid pain regulatory systems in the human brain
- Close collaboration with 1-2 postdocs at UiO, anaesthetic scientists at OUS, and the main supervisor, neuroscientist
- Access to necessary infrastructure at UiO and OUS
- Possibility to attend courses and international conferences
- Possibility to combine research and clinical work (50% position over six years may be possible)
