The Department of Biotechnology and Circular Economy builds on 25 years of experience, broad expertise, specialized laboratories, advanced infrastructure, and spin-off companies. NORCE is host of the Norwegian Bioprocessing and Fermentation Centre, a unique research infrastructure for microbial process design, development, and scaling.The group in Marine biotechnology is seeking a technician for assisting in microalgae cultivation and production processes for developing bio-products such as food, feed, materials, and chemicals. In addition to microalgea the group focuses on enzyme technologies, with expertise in molecular biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, and bioprocess engineering. The group has infrastructure for cultivation of photosynthetic microalgae, from lab-to-pilot scale, with lab-scale infrastructure based in Bergen. The group is responsible for operating the National Algaepilot at Mongstad (NAM), owned by the University of Bergen, for scale-up of photosynthetic microalgae cultivation, with a close connection to downstream processing infrastructure at the Aquafeed Technology Centre. The research group coordinates several EU research projects, leads several nationally funded research projects, and participates in a national centre in biotechnology.About the positionThe technician will be organizing and running microalgae cultivations using our lab-to-pilot infrastructure for high quality bio-based products. The work includes the operation of bioreactors, and optimization of bioprocesses to facilitate scale-up. The technician should review, diagnose and interpret productivity limitations, and develop data compilation and analysis methods. Work also includes media preparation, assisting in troubleshooting equipment and process, stocking of items, and maintenance of equipment, policies, and procedures. The role may include lab management. The work will be carried out in collaboration with the experts and project managers in the group, and with partners in industry, research, and academia. The technician is expected to present, and report results internally, and occasionally in national and international fora. The position is permanent and will be placed in Bergen. Travelling to and from Mongstad will be expected on demand. The level of the position will be based on by the years of relevant experience.RequirementsThe applicant must fulfil the following requirements to be considered:

The position requires a bachelor's degree in biotechnology, microbiology, bioprocess engineering, or equivalent.
Good analytical skills
Good writing and dissemination skills
Proficiency in both written and oral English
Can work independently and in a well-structured manner
Good collaborative skills
Valid Norwegian driving licence, class B

Desirable qualifications

Experience with bioreactors, and/or bioprocesses
Experience with microalgae or other microbes
Relevant work experience
Experience from relevant industry
Experience from project management
Proficiency in Norwegian
Access to car
