You will manage engineers located across multiple regions and time zones, building a high-performing, inclusive team culture that enables effective collaboration at scale. You will be accountable for delivering scalable, reliable, and secure time-series and event processing capabilities that enable utilities, system operators, and energy market participants to orchestrate an increasingly distributed and decarbonized grid.Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities1. Leadership & People Management in a Global Context
- Lead, mentor, and grow a geographically distributed team of software engineers (and potentially data/DevOps engineers) working across multiple time zones.
- Establish clear, asynchronous ways of working (documentation, decision logs, recorded demos) to ensure alignment despite limited overlapping hours.
- Create an inclusive and collaborative team culture that values diverse perspectives, cultural sensitivity, and psychological safety.
- Set clear expectations, provide regular performance feedback, and drive career development tailored to regional contexts and opportunities.
- Collaborate with regional leaders and HR partners to recruit, onboard, and retain talent across multiple geographies.
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of Timebase and Anybase capabilities within GridOS, including:
- Time-series data storage and retrieval
- Real-time streaming and event processing
- Time alignment and synchronization across diverse data sources
- Integrations with simulation, forecasting, optimization, and market modules
- Partner with architects to evolve the Timebase and Anybase technical roadmap and reference architecture, ensuring it meets global scalability, reliability, and compliance needs.
- Drive decisions on architecture, performance, resilience, observability, and cost optimization for a cloud-native platform used by customers worldwide.
- Ensure Timebase components adhere to GE Vernova’s security, data protection, and compliance standards, including regional regulatory requirements where applicable.
- Plan and prioritize the Timebase and Anybase engineering roadmap with product management, balancing global customer needs and regional market requirements.
- Structure work so that teams in different time zones can progress autonomously, using strong documentation, well-defined interfaces, and clear handoffs.
- Oversee software development, code review, testing (including automated and performance testing), and documentation to maintain high quality.
- Champion DevOps best practices (CI/CD, infrastructure as code, robust monitoring, and alerting) to enable effective “follow-the-sun” support and operations.
- Ensure Timebase an Anybase services meet defined SLAs/SLOs for availability, latency, throughput, and data integrity across regions.
- Collaborate with product managers, solution architects, and other platform teams spread across regions to align on priorities and dependencies.
- Support global customer engagements, proof-of-concepts, and escalations by providing deep technical guidance on Timebase and Anybase capabilities and roadmap.
- Communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders in different time zones using structured, asynchronous communication (written updates, dashboards, etc.).
- Coordinate with customer support and operations teams to ensure seamless incident response, post-incident analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Define and refine global engineering processes that support distributed work: sprint rituals, backlog management, design reviews, and architectural decision records.
- Promote high levels of test automation, observability, and proactive performance monitoring across all regions.
- Lead blameless post-incident reviews and drive corrective and preventive actions that improve reliability and responsiveness.
- Ensure alignment with GE Vernova engineering standards, cybersecurity practices, and regulatory requirements relevant to critical infrastructure and grid software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Professional software engineering experience in an engineering leadership or people management role.
- Proven experience leading teams distributed across multiple locations and time zones, with demonstrated ability to maintain alignment, quality, and delivery velocity.
- Strong background in designing and operating large-scale distributed systems or data platforms, including:
- Time-series or event-driven data storage technologies
- Real-time data streaming frameworks (e.g., Kafka, Pulsar, Kinesis)
- High-availability, mission-critical services in production environments
- Hands-on experience with at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, Go, C#, Python) and public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Strong grasp of software engineering best practices: system design, clean code, testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and incident management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to drive clarity and decision-making in an asynchronous, global environment.
- Experience in the energy, power systems, grid operations, or industrial IoT sectors.
- Familiarity with:
- GridOS or similar grid orchestration / energy management platforms
- Time synchronization concepts (NTP, PTP) and temporal modeling
- Real-time analytics, digital twins, or large-scale simulations
- Demonstrated success building and scaling inclusive, high-performing teams across cultures and regions.
- Comfortable working with stakeholders across product, architecture, security, and operations in a matrixed global organization.
- Strong architectural thinking and the ability to balance long-term platform strategy with near-term delivery needs.
- Passion for enabling the energy transition and building software that supports grid reliability, resilience, and decarbonization.
- Opportunity to lead a core, globally distributed platform team at the heart of GridOS and GE Vernova’s digital strategy.
- The chance to work on complex, high-impact problems that shape the future of the electric grid and global energy transition.
- A diverse, mission-driven environment with colleagues across regions and disciplines.
- Competitive compensation, benefits, and global career development opportunities.
